It’s surprising how unsurprising most businesses are, don’t you think? Especially because surprising businesses – are memorable businesses.
It’s also surprising how unsurprising most businesses are because of the Bronze/Silver/Gold-Level Surprise Rule. Bronze-Level Surprises are Quite Memorable. Silver-Level Surprises are Memorable. And Gold-Level Surprises are Very Memorable.
The Bronze/Silver/Gold-level Surprise Rule is, by the way, a very real rule (that I made up).
An example of a Bronze-Level Surprise is when you go to a hotel, with your dog, and they greet you – and your dog – by name. And they’ve part-completed the form you have to fill in with all the information that you know they already know about you.
An example of a Silver-Level Surprise is when, as a business, you visit your creative agency and they have slippers for you, in your size, with your name on, and they know how you and your entire team take coffee or tea without asking, and they have your absolute favourite biscuits plated for you – every time you go.
An example of a Gold-Level Surprise is when you book into in a cozy cottage in winter and your host has mapped out wintery walks for you, from 2 hours to 8 hours long. And the fridge contains ingredients to slow cooker ham and pea soup, with easy instruction for 2 hour to 8 hour cook-times, so you can align to the walk you choose. So that on your return, your toasty cottage smells of ready-to-eat, healthy, homemade loveliness.
It’s surprising how unsurprising most businesses are, don’t you think? Especially because surprising businesses – are memorable businesses.
