Here are the three most notable things that happen to me when I switch my phone off. My phone has been off for 10 consecutive hours as part of Sari Niemi’s MindUnwired Sundays (which I sometime do on a Monday) for the past three weeks.
The three things I notice most are:
- I’m not as important as I think I am.
- My world shrinks.
- I do things properly.
To expand:
- Everything can wait. When I turn my phone back on, 99% of what’s new is all the shit I usually get – but in one lump. Instead of sprinkled. Like the digital equivalent of one of those fatberg things that fuck up sewers.
- My world consisted of a few things that really matter. Instead of loads of things that don’t.
- Anything I do. Anything. I do better. This includes conversation, watching tv, listening to a podcast, work, reading, walking, thinking, playing a board game and going to the toilet.
Sari’s MindUnwired is going to be great in 2025 and beyond. I’ll keep you posted.
