More from David Ogilvy here.
The legendary advertising chap.
And more about his intolerance of ‘hiders’.
Leaders.
Some leaders pretend to lead.
When all they are really doing.
Is creating groups of people.
None of whom make difficult individual decisions.
They simply stroke each other.
Deciding to do that which is most palatable to the room.
Silly.
This is commonplace.
And silly.
Because any leadership team worth its salt.
Know that it is the people outside of the room that matter most.
Because they are the people the brand is actually for.
Statues.
Anyhow.
Here’s David’s rather astute observation on this subject.
Search your parks in all your cities.
You’ll find no statues of committees.”
And he’s right, of course.
Groups trying to please each other do not get celebrated.
Brave and pioneering leaders – do.

Thanks. I’m having that. It is in my pocket now and I’m not giving it back.
